A reasonably attractive pair of phones that have been in the wings for a while now on Verizon are finally hitting next week — October 6, to be exact. The Motorola VU30 Rapture is the first of the pair, a glossy flip set to do battle with Sprint’s VE20 featuring a 2-megapixel camera, touch-sensitive external display (Verizon calls it “vanishing”), GPS, and EV-DO for $179.99 on a two-year contract or $299.99 with no Hancock required. Next, we have the Samsung u650 Sway, a silvery slider coming in at 0.47 inches thick and a feature list eerily reminiscent of the VU30’s, right down to the 2-megapixel cam — though EV-DO is strangely missing, as far as we can tell. Where they got the name “Sway” for a slider, though, is beyond us. Look for this one to run $119.99 on a two-year, $239.99 contract-free.

If you’re going to equip yourself with a phone as luxurious and feature-packed as Samsung’s Omnia to line your pocket, you may as well go for broke, right? The so-called “Millionaire Pack” bundles the high-end WinMo set with a matching Bluetooth headset — a WEP350, if you’re curious — and a leather travel case to keep your beloved handset safe and secure on the road. There’s also an issue of “Millionaire” magazine in there and an entry to win a three-day trip to Moscow for November’s Millionaire Fair, where flashing your non-diamond-studded Omnia is sure to impress essentially no one. The whole package runs a stout €699 (about $1,021), which realistically, plenty of hundredaires and thousandaires should be able to swing.

Did you know Samsung was still making non-3G devices for Verizon? True story. Take this here SCH-u430, for example, a brand new flip (that we’ve actually known about for a while) featuring Bluetooth, 160 x 128 internal and 96 x 96 external displays, a VGA cam, and that’s about it. Notably absent from the feature list is EV-DO, meaning that if you’re looking for a tethering partner or an awesome way to download music on the cheap, the u430 is no friend of yours. Of course, considering that it’s free on contract, we can’t complain too hard, can we?

Neither LG nor Samsung have ever gone so far to as pin down an actual release date for their promised Android-based phones, but it looks like they could each now be giving themselves yet more wiggle room, at least if the supposedly in the know Mirae Asset Securities is to be believed. According to it, we now shouldn’t expect to see Android handsets from either manufacturer before the second half of 2009 “at the earliest,” which doesn’t exactly match up with earlier word that both companies were aiming for a release in “early 2009.” Venturing even further into speculation, Mirae says that the delay is a result of “negative responses” from mobile phone operators like Vodafone, as well as some general skepticism among advertising sponsors about Google’s profit model for the phones. Of course, none of those parties mentioned are actually saying anything themselves just yet, so you may do well to take all of this with a hefty grain of salt for the time being.

phoneArena has cobbled together all the details it could dig up on a trio of Samsungs apparently destined for AT&T, and needless to say, we’re not looking at your average anonymous midrange flips here (and kudos to that, by the way). First up is the A767 “Sangria,” which apparently borrows the i620 and i640’s style but drops Windows Mobile to turn it into a strictly consumer device that’s targeted for launch in late October. Next up, the A867 (cutesy name unknown) sorta looks like the mighty Omnia from its FCC filing, but it probably isn’t for a couple very good reason: first, the FCC filing makes no mention of WiFi, and second, Samsung’s smartphones start with “i.” Finally, that i907 Mirage — you know, the one everyone thought (hoped) might actually be the Omnia — is said to actually be AT&T’s version of the i780, featuring Windows Mobile Professional, triband HSDPA, a 2-megapixel cam, and that optical mouse Samsung has been featuring on its higher-end devices as of late. Pretty exciting stuff, eh?

Seems like everyone wants a piece of Samsung’s touch action these days, and US Cellular might be chalked up to get in on it next with this puppy, the so-called “Delve” (best they could come up with? really?). The candybar — which seems to cop a good deal from its older F480 brother — is said to feature a 3-inch display, navigation, full HTML browser, stereo Bluetooth, a “second generation TouchWiz interface,” and a 2-megapixel cam. It’s no Omnia, but we’ll take what we can get — and the rumor is that we’ll be able to get what we can come November.

Samsung was content with teasing us all weekend long, but it has finally seen fit to officially reveal its next 8-megapixel handset, the Pixon. Boasting a 3.2-inch touchscreen, 13.8-millimeter thin design and an inbuilt camera with Auto Focus, face detection and geotagging, the handset clearly emphasizes the importance of taking a few photos each and everyday. Sammy has confessed that the currently unpriced mobile will start shipping in around a fortnight for those in France, while most other European / Asian countries will see it shortly. As for North America? Take a wild guess.

Right, so we were already pretty sure that Pixon we were eying earlier wasn’t a KIRF of some sort, but just in case you still had your doubts, Samsung has stepped in to wash them away. The 8-megapixel Pixon is for real, as evidenced by a teaser site with an absurdly long URL name. As for confirmed specs, we’re looking at a 3.2-inch touch panel, 13.8-millimeter thin enclosure, 8MP camera (with Auto Focus, twin LED flash, face detection, and shake reduction), a built-in accelerometer and 7.2Mbps HSDPA. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the linked site is going to spill any other details until October 2nd, but you can still kill some serious time there just rolling your cursor on and off the lens.
